Low Refractive Index Grid (LnG)

The main applications of CMOS image sensors (CIS) are mobile phones, automobiles, and security systems. To meet the increasing demand of image quality, the trends like multiple cameras, high image resolution, and large-aperture lens have begun. In mobile phones, the combination of multiple cameras includes a wide-angle lens, an ultra-wide-angle lens, and two telephoto lenses. An image sensor with pixel number of 200M has been used in a wide-angle camera (main-camera) recently. To provide higher resolution in a mobile phone camera, the miniaturization of pixel size continues, and the increasing crosstalk (X-talk) between pixels needs an isolation technology which is the key for good image quality. The low refractive index grid (LnG) structure is born to reduce the optical X-talk in the trend of pixel shrinkage. VisEra has developed pixel isolation technology since 2012, and continuously build our patent portfolio. The LnG technology has developed from its 1st-generation to the 2nd-generation, and will keep going for better isolation of pixels in the future. It is expected that verification of the third generation low refractive index grid technology will be carried out from 2024. VisEra will continue developing low-refractive index grid and keep the world-leading position in the field of CIS technology.
